Cala Mia is located on the virtually uninhabited island of Boca Brava in the Archipielago of Chiriqui, which is part of the
National Marina Park in the gulf of Chiriqui. It has over 100 islands (Islas las Secas) within its boundaries with innumerable
secluded beaches!
The park is a refuge for an abundance of wildlife with, -on the forest-covered islands-: howler monkeys, ocelots, margays, jaguarundis, raccoons, ant-eaters, coyotes; in the bays and ocean: leatherback and hawksbill turtles, dolphins, whales and a wide variety of other tropical fishes and in the deep blue skies: birds, birds, birds! Cala Mia can be reached from Panama City to David, directly from Boquete, Costa Rica
(ask us for our Paso Canoas taxi pick The roads are paved all the way to Boca Chica and makes for a pleasant drive through the countryside A taxi from David (airport) to Boca Chica takes just over 1 hour and charge $ 50 each way. If you like, we gladly arrange one of our trusted drivers to pick you up and bring you to Boca Chica, where our hotel taxi boat will be waiting to pick you up!
By car or taxi:
Take Horconcito exit and follow the road, first passing Horconcito after about 7 kilometers / 5 miles and just keep on going and following the various signs that will guide you to "Boca Chica". When they enter Boca Chica keep going straight, first seeing the town square on your left hand and keep going for about 50 meters/yards down and after the tiny gas station on the right keep going for about 20 meters/yards and take a right just before the little white church. Behind the church there is guarded parking for $ 2 per day! The boat dock is maybe 30 meters from here so easy to walk! Our Hotel Boat will be waiting there - at the pre-arranged time - to pick you up and take you to the hotel.

The trip passes through lagoons, mangroves, tidal-wetlands, estuaries, and on the banks of the river you will be able to see indigenous villages and their inhabitants tending their crops or fishing. During this boat ride there is a chance to see dolphins, monkeys and sometimes crocodiles! This transport is for hotel-guests at cost: usd 300.- per trip one way for 4 persons, each extra person usd 10. |
